Catalin Petrisor

Cătălin Petrişor's paintings are seamless renditions based on compilations of cut-outs, from found or owned photographs. By the means of photo-editing, the artist has begun to sense the specific “reality” he wishes to present as directly generated by the manipulation of the image’s structure, as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Cătălin Petrişor is interested in the illusionist space: the situation in which, with the help of the most discreet interventions, one can alter a form to the point of creating a new dimension. It is paradoxically through representation that he is searching for the status of questioning the reality of the image and the reasons of its existence.

Cătălin Petrişor (b. 1978) is a visual artist from Craiova, Romania. He currently lives and works in Segarcea, Romania. He studied at the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca, where he obtained a master's degree in visual arts. In the past decade, he had several solo shows, including  The Illusion of Depth at Mind Set Art Center, Taipei, Taiwan (2015); The Distance Itself at C-Space, Beijing, China (2013) and Geometry of Human Nature curated by Maria Rus Bojan at Galerie Dix 9, Paris, France (2012). In 2018, his works were part of the collective exhibition At Different Angles curated by Simona Vilau at MNAC (The Museum of Modern Art Bucharest).  His works are part of of the public collection of De Nederlandsche Bank, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
